Abstract Hotel Review

“Finally, a good accommodation option within spitting distance of Auckland’s hip Karangahape Road. The new Abstract Hotel brings cool facilities, slick dark interiors and affordable prices. All this is set in a block just a minute’s walk from the city’s edgiest nightlife and some great dining options – although the on-site Italian restaurant is not to be missed either.”

Location

Abstract is mere metres off historic Karangahape Road (better known to locals as “K Road”). Regeneration has brought a slew of great restaurants and bars to the strip but the street hasn’t lost any of its interest. Named one of the coolest streets in the world by TimeOut (2022), this is a neighbourhood too often missed by visitors to Auckland. Take a walk from end to end to discover art galleries, film archives, fine dining, nightclubs, adult shops, cafés, boutique fashion labels and much more.

Style and Character

The intended vibe is Brooklyn, New York. With dark walls, petite rooms and lots of interesting shared facilities to hang out in, the Abstract packs a lot into a small space that is stylish, modern and thoughtful – and none of it feels remotely “budget hotel”. The vibe is more boutique chic and will appeal to younger travellers or older hipsters wanting more bang for their buck.

All shared facilities are found on the ground and first floor. K Road sits at the top of a ridgeline, so even if the windows are a bit small, most rooms have good views with interesting aspects of the city, central suburbs and the historic Grafton cemetery.
